Best Rainy Day Foods: What to Eat When It's Rainy

Posted by Jenniffer Sheldon on Wednesday, May 22, 2024

When it is gloomy, doomy, and gray outside, we all just want one thing: the COZY. Yes, the very essence of cozy (hygge, if you will) is what we rainy-day people seek, so today I’m gifting you a list of delicious and cozy rainy day foods, since rainy season is FAR from over in most places in the U.S. So without further adooguh (rhymes with hygge, trust me), let me share the warmth.

Pacific Foods Organic Creamy Tomato Soup

Nothing says rainy day comfort food quite like tomato soup and grilled cheese, and boy does this tomato soup deliver. You can watch all the plants outside blow back and forth in the wind and the field at your apartment flood while you happily slurp this top-notch tomato soup. This soup is seriously so good that Sporked decided it might just be “the best soup we’ve ever gotten at the grocery store.” Yes, collectively. It is sweet, decadent, oniony, and garlicky. Honestly? Just get it.

Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pockets with Crispy Crust

Who doesn’t love to nibble on a piping-hot Hot Pocket while standing moodily next to a window with rain streaking down it? No one, that’s who. So, get yourself one of these Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pockets (which senior writer Jordan Myrick called “one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life”), go find a large rainy window, and live out your cozy, melodramatic dreams.

Pepperidge Farm Garlic Bread

Now, you may not think of it immediately, but garlic bread makes for an excellent rainy day food. Why? Because it is warm, crunchy, chewy, pillowy, greasy, salty, and garlicky. It’s honestly an every-occasion food, but when it’s particularly narsty outside, let me tell ya, this stuff hits different. Plus Pepperidge Farm really knocked it out of the park with this one: it’s buttery and fresh like homemade, has a crusty outside and “pillowy, oily innards,” as well as an extra thick “smear of garlic butter and that really works for it,” according to managing editor Gwynedd Stuart. Incidentally, it’s perfect for dunking into tomato soup.

Nothing says rainy day food like a hot cheesy dip for your chips, and nothing says “hot cheesy dip for your chips” quite like spinach artichoke dip does. And this isn’t just any spinach artichoke dip. This Marketside dip from Walmart is loaded with cream cheese, mozzarella, parmesan, and asiago. According to Sporked contributor Danny Palumbo, it’s a “well-seasoned, vegetable-packed dip,” in general. This one would be great while sitting on the couch with a bag of chips, watching rom-coms and monitoring just how much water is in the drainage ditch near your house.

Tate’s Bake Shop Chocolate Chip Cookies

I mean, cookies and milk, people. It’s like a hug for your stomach and your soul. So wrap one of these cookies in a paper towel, microwave it for 10 seconds, then pretend it’s homemade. Dip it in cold milk and enjoy the heck out of it. Plus, there’s not much pretending involved in “pretending” these are homemade. I mean, try them—they basically are homemade. In his ranking of the best chocolate chip cookies, Danny noted that Tate’s cookies were “so crumbly, buttery, crispy, and delicious that we couldn’t stay away from them,” adding that they have an “extra bit of caramelization” on the bottom, just like cookies you make at home. Try these. This is your sign. Also, I don’t know about you, but it’s raining where I am right now and I could use a warm cookie and milk.
